Upgrade SQL Server 2008 to 2012

First, download SQL Server 2012 Express installer from Microsoft.com

Open the link, this page will show, click on Download

 

Next, check if your Windows is 32bit or 64bit OS
 right click on Computer, and select properties

Check under System type, most of the modern pc are running 64bit

Back to the website,

Select SQLEXPRWT_x64_ENU.exe if your Windows are 64bit

Select SQLEXPRWT_x86_ENU.exe if your Windows are 32bit

 

Click Next, installer will start download automatically

 

Once installer done download, open it

It will extract installer files into C Drive, this might take a minute or more

 

SQL Server Installation Center will show after installer done extract files.

Select 2nd option for Upgrade SQL Server 2008 to 2012

 

At License Terms page, tick “I accept the license terms.” And click Next >

 

At Product Updates page, untick “Include SQL Server product update” and click Next >

Wait a while, while it Install Setup Files.

 

At Select Instance page, just click Next >

*If you didn’t saw this page, it mean your current version of SQL Server are not support for upgrade

*You can process uninstall on the old SQL Server and install new SQL Server directly.

*Do make backup before uninstall the old SQL Server to avoid any data lost issue.

At Error Reporting page, just click Next >

 

Then Upgrade Progress page will show, and upgrade in progress.

*This progress will take some time depend on PC hardware spec,
 *in a Duo Core processor, 2GB RAM and running under Hard Disk, it took 25min.

When upgrade is done, this message will be prompted, asking for restart computer for complete the setup process.

Click OK and Close, then restart your computer, SQL Server upgrade progress is now completed.
